But yer last sentence actually describes Ring-0 process isolation, not IOMMU & that kernel-level software policing is exactly where my problem w/ Vanguard As engineer, running debuggers, memory profilers, & CLI tools ...

galets (@galets) reported@crash @riotgames Even if we assume that a software vendor can legitimately destroy cheater's hardware since they agreed to the terms: what if hardware belongs to somebody who didn't accept terms? Perhaps person obtained it for security research and his roommate borrowed it and used for cheating.

A direct memory access card reads from the instructions to mirror parts of main memory which contain Valorant instructions (copyrighted) and memory. The Riot software issues instructions to Windows IOMMU which disable the DMA devices for all operations. This exceeds the scope of their interests (the Valorant code and memory space). DMA devices used only for legitimate purposes may have a cause for action. The civil standard of evidence most likely leans in Riot’s favor, and the harms are not irreparable.

I’m saying repeated crashes/hard shutoffs are not harmless, can risk data corruption/system instability, and if Vanguard is triggering them, that’s a serious issue for kernel-level software.

Sarah (@Sarah_MS90) reported@riotgames The last Vanguard update causes my PC to crash 3-4 times per day with vgk.sys error code, sometimes in the middle of rounds, in champ select, in the lobby. After restarting everything works normally until after a bunch of new rounds it happens again... never had a cheat program
