galets (@galets) reported@crash @riotgames Even if we assume that a software vendor can legitimately destroy cheater's hardware since they agreed to the terms: what if hardware belongs to somebody who didn't accept terms? Perhaps person obtained it for security research and his roommate borrowed it and used for cheating.

If you're saying kernel-level anti-cheat is illegal then Riot Games and Epic Games would be in massive legal trouble across the EU already.

There are absolutely ways they could bite the cost at the expense of more compute with modern computing to remediate the issues of cheaters without over-reach, they're just not doing it.

The problem here isn't kernel level anti-cheat, the problem here is the fact that Riot is tampering with hardware. If Riot wants to use their kernel level access to sniff for DMA devices that they don't like and issue bans, that's completely fine. The problem is that Riot has chosen to go a step further, they've chosen to tamper with hardware.

But it's probably not illegal because you almost certainly agree to allow them to specifically do these types of modifications to your system. Like Sony rootkit DRM issue was it was undisclosed completely.
