This is 30+ year old proven Inmarsat GEO satellite phone technology (handhelds like IsatPhone have been around since the 2000s, with roots going back decades). Etisalat-backed Thuraya was already deploying similar sat phones which could be used globaly in the early 1990s-2000s. - At ₹1.34 lakh for the handset + high monthly rentals (₹3.5k to 11k+), it's damn expensive for regular public use.
