  • sparkyarcster Stephon Parker 👨🏾‍💻 (He/Him) (Birthday Hiatus) (@sparkyarcster) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Dear Intern, I was testing a script in **** instead of test and truncated a lot the data in our customers table so several could use their site instance. Fortunately I stopped it about half way through and was able to fix it. Brush this one off.

  • d_veebee Definitely not Deidre (@d_veebee) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Hello intern! I work with expensive, advanced technology and I broke something as an intern and lost several nights of sleep over it. I offered to pay to replace it. My boss waved it off. Everyone in my field has broken something and everything is expensive. We get thru it!

  • stefanmajiros Stefan Majiros (@stefanmajiros) reported

@HBOMaxHelp It would be better, simply, not pushing responsibility for all this to individuals at all. Intern's managers, team leads, your own processes = these are the ones, you should help. Btw, is there something like postmortems in HBO?

  • cwessel25 Corrina Cohen (@cwessel25) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Tell this intern to find me when they graduate and are ready for full time work. They’ve already made the error every marketer dreads and had it called out. Now they are ready take on anything an email program could possibly throw at them.

  • JKarronATL JKinATL ☮️♻️🌎🏈🌳 (@JKarronATL) reported

@profgalloway 💯 😤 Trying to get my mom set up on @hbomax and it works on 1 TV but not the other, even when other apps like Netflix and Prime work just fine.

  • DutchTennessean The Dude abides 🍹 (@DutchTennessean) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Please be kind to your intern. We've all broken sign up forms, dropped production databases at 2am and blanketed the world with our Integration Test Emails and felt really bad about it. 😱

  • Intrepidity Bart (@Intrepidity) reported

@EddyVinckk @hbomax I mean, "they did it but it's okay" is not exactly as blameless as you'd want your company culture to be. I do feel kind of odd about a company tweeting this. Rather ask the question what processes were broken enough for *anyone* to do this.

  • Selkirk Jeff Moore (@Selkirk) reported

@rakyll @HBOMaxHelp Lol. Many years ago I got a call that our service was down with a strange error message. I pulled it up at home, “that’s odd, that error could really only happen if *important* table is missing. Oh.” We teased the dropper about it a bit, but no consequences.

  • AyyForAustin Austin Robertson (@AyyForAustin) reported

The HBO app on PS4 is so unnecessarily terrible and I dont know why. Great offerings but the platform is almost unusable. Fix your **** @hbomax

  • dshrewsberry Dave Shrewsberry (@dshrewsberry) reported

@HBOMaxHelp The only people to have never broken production are people who have never deployed anything meaningful

  • MichalBryxi Michal Bryxí (@MichalBryxi) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Back in the days when virtualization was still young I was playing around on one of the production servers. Unfortunately one of the N technologies at that time had shutdown command named "destroy", for the other technology it meant the obvious...

  • PsycheMax Max BLM - Free 🇵🇸 Palestine - 🍉 (@PsycheMax) reported

@ChloeCondon @hbomax (does this stuff still work?)

  • ddunstan David Dunstan (@ddunstan) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Dear Intern. You're doing just fine. This whole thing is so harmless, no worries. Chalk this up to learning! Exactly what an internship is for. Now you know. And error or not - you just reached thousands of potential future employers. Enjoy the moment! Don't worry. HAGS

  • richardadalton Richard Dalton (@richardadalton) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Dear Intern, If interns can make mistakes in Production, that's not the fault of the intern, it's not a "mistake". It's the fault of the employer. They shouldn't be "helping you through it". They should be getting help to lock down their **** environment properly.

  • sogonsec Chris Humphries (in CRTO course) (@sogonsec) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Dear Intern, I marked all tickets in the database as DELETED for an ISP/Datacenter that hosted many thousands of servers/sites and we had hundreds of active tickets open. I had to scrap a CSM screen (saved as html before he refreshed) to recover many of them. It happens :)

  • hendea2 AJ Henderson (@hendea2) reported

@simAlity @smackdown @HBOMaxHelp Except you should anticipate that test environments and interns shouldn't have direct access to run on production data. This is evidence of what is likely an endemic problem that needs correction.

  • sophomoregeek ZvT (@sophomoregeek) reported

@drjonsimpkins @hbomax Uh, no. In my not-so-short career I have made many terrible mistakes, but messing with **** environment and real customer is definitely one of them.

  • bgkittrell Ben Kittrell (@bgkittrell) reported

@HBOMaxHelp We all have horror stories. I've deleted production data, sent out test emails to real people, taken down **** many times. There's no mistaking that terrible sinking feeling that starts to set in when you realize what's happened. Just part of the gig.

  • chx Karoly Negyesi of House AstraZeneca (@chx) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Dear intern: I once rolled a change to production which eventually DoS'd our own site and then we left for a conference. It was fun. Not. This happens in this line of work and we make our systems more resilient as a result -- which avoids much worse so it's a win at the end.

  • NomadCoder88 Sammy (@NomadCoder88) reported

@HBOMaxHelp We have all broken production at some point, I nuked a server so successfully once as a junior engineer we had to change racks. Welcome to the club... I suspect there are t-shirts somewhere and if not there should be.

  • cuscuzero 𝚊𝚋𝚗𝚎𝚛 (@cuscuzero) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Once I accidentally sent an endless stream of notifications to a few 100s of users ‘cause the conditions I had applied to check if the notif had already been sent were not sufficient. Had to deploy a fix ASAP, scariest 20 mins of my life at the time, but it ended all ok

  • grhmc Graham Christensen (@grhmc) reported

@RobotTaylor @richburroughs @HBOMaxHelp Poka-yoke, eh? “Seems wrong to decimate the servers allocated to S3, want to type that in again?”

  • Polkadog_Token Polkadog Token (@Polkadog_Token) reported

@HBOMaxHelp The Intern's surely having a bad day at work now.

  • jdhovland jdhovland - please get vaccinated (@jdhovland) reported

@HBOMaxHelp To the intern, Been there. During an in place database upgrade and normalization the team I was on forgot to account for the quality of the data in a table and it ended up causing the upgrade to run far longer than expected. Quick fix found, but shouldn’t have happened.

  • DevRelCallum Callum Uwunderwood (@DevRelCallum) reported

@HBOMaxHelp Dear intern - hopefully you can work for a company that doesn't call you out on your bluetick twitter account.

  • Faerie_Speak Myna Marie 🐰 (@Faerie_Speak) reported

@HBOMaxHelp To the intern: I once lost a student’s capstone exam when the computer system rebooted mid-way through printing it out. It’s a 4 hour exam. All their work was gone. I was absolutely devastated, and I was maybe a month into that position. So don’t worry, you got this!

  • Velvet_Roses Rachel (@Velvet_Roses) reported

Dear @hbomax Why don’t you have 2 factor authentication??? Someone logged in to MY CANCELED ACCOUNT and updated information that ISN’T THEIRS!!! And no one on your end will help me! #Help

  • TaylorJOtt Taylor Ott (@TaylorJOtt) reported

Hope no one gets in too much trouble for the Integration Test Email #1 @hbomax. We've all been there, we all get it.

  • neilbarnwell Neil Barnwell (@neilbarnwell) reported

@HBOMaxHelp The intern "did it", but it wasn't their fault. That's on the setup that allowed it to happen. That said, systems are hard and even with "least privilege" in place, there's always *someone* with enough access to cause trouble. The main thing is no-one should get in trouble.

  • Gwenwid Gwenwid (@Gwenwid) reported

@TheSunnyMachine @hbomax Dude.... We watch HBOmax pretty much everyday. Their app on the PS5.... It's terrible. Constantly crashes. Hates standby mode. Locks up while watching. :(
