@jonathan_wilke I was there when million dollar home page started. It was an epic time early 2000’s before cloud computing existed. There was a company called “theplanet” that you could rent dedicated servers from cheap. You’d have to host your own sites back then so was a great group of users active on the company’s forum and you’d never miss a thing. Think hostgator starting, Brent Oxely was posting, Gordon with putfile, all kinds of websites I can’t remember but would all show up there to get hosted.

Any we host recommendations? @hostgator now is going to limit how many email boxes we have and I want to jump ship. I only use it for email anyway as the sites there all got hacked and got no help from support.

@HGSupport so I guess your services don't want to work today.. pretty crappy service when need to get on to update their site.

@HostGator @HGSupport entering day 6 without access to 3 revenue producing sites, and no one at HG has any answers, only cut-and-paste replies. Hearing nearly 50k sites still down and HG is recruiting help on Fiverr. Epic fail and clear signal that revenue producing sites cannot trust HG.

@ionos_help_US I called support. They needed my ID and something else. Sadly, I ended up just using @HostGator which went right through and I was up with cpanel in less that 20 minutes.

@HGSupport @HostGator And even after deleting and cleaning everything on 29th Jul, they are not even replying to the email, and their support is unable to do anything, just playing from pillar to post (senior tier 1, higher admin, level 2 and whatnot). I am extremely disappointed and want to migrate,

@HGSupport @NewfoldDigital I do not mean to offend, but what happened was and is you have some folks who may be well-meaning, but do not understand what they're doing. Too often someone at HG makes changes to my back-end server that I did not authorize. This has been problem for the last 3 years. STOP IT. Make sure to allow the owner-admin, er, me, to approve any changes before they're made. Do not just DO them.

And on the matter of a “custom config” since HostGator’s responsibility is to the database, you WORK with the maker of the “custom config” because they need the help from what is supposed to be their business partner: HostGator. Don’t know who’s telling you to write what you wrote but it’s a really bad look.

At 21 I started a web hosting company for under $500. - rented a server from HostGator - studied their "get your first 1,000 customers" ebook like scripture - pitched people in forums Shocker: nobody wanted web hosting from a college kid. So I changed the offer. I started selling websites instead. New website owners have the problem of "Where do I host this?" I would bundle the hosting as part of the website build in exchange for putting their credit card on file for next year. I didn't realize it at the time, but this is when I learned about the 'Front Doors' and 'Back Doors'. It's easy to fool yourself when researching a business or competitor when all you can see if their 'Front Door'. The offer on your competitor's website may look too good to be true and you may wonder how can they possibly do that? They have a 'Back Door' offer that must offset it and then some. You usually can't see it from the outside.

We have a client hosted by @HostGator's shared hosting system and has been for around 20-years or so. They've hit the limit of 'inodes' on the highest shared hosting plan so were forced to upgrade either by leaving Host Gator or going to a VPS. After a discussion with Host Gator they decided to take a discounted offer and switch to an HG hosted VPS server, HG graciously tossed in free migration from the shared hosting to VPS for a smooth transition. It has been a nightmare since. The website's images are almost all no longer displaying. Host Gator's "migration" team is in India and has screwed up the migration twice now all while a USA based sales person keeps assuring our client that things are going to be fixed asap and it should be done any minute. At one point they took up ALL of the storage space on the VPS for this one site to be moved over. Then they were silent for a full 24-hours before sending a disclaimer and asking permission to delete the data on the VPS server. We are 5 full days into this ordeal without a successful server migration and client is now in a full blown panic. They decided to keep ads running, etc... after being told it would be done in less than 24-hours. They paid for a full year of this hosting up front saying HG's support had improved in recent years and are now getting completely wrecked. Client is worried they might accidentally delete the website or other websites they had built on the shared hosting (which they are keeping). GoDaddy often gets numerous (and extremely valid) complaints about being the worst hosting solution, but all of @NewfoldDigital is right behind them.

@DanMicovic @HGSupport @HostGator That’s rough, 2 weeks with no access is unacceptable, especially for email and client sites. You may want to start looking at alternatives like Fresh Roasted Hosting. Their support is much more responsive, and the uptime has been solid in my experience.

@HostGator @WamanyaPious Not when you make changes that totally disrupt 20 years of workflow & you don't warn or give your customers a choice or a say in the matter. You've forever lost my biz cuz you just don't do that if you like your customers. So NO this is the shittiest deal I've ever gotten from an IT provider. Even gmail gives their customers & choice & plenty of warning. You screwed up & hope it costs you dearly because this is NOT something you do to a customer base without repercussions & pissed off customers. You're response here just made it worse - showing that you don't give a ****. Basically I read it this way. "Tough if you don't like it - bugger off - you don't have control over what the interface will do & what it will look like - so go elsewhere because we decide what our customers get & we don't let pissed off customers have a say!

@Codie_Sanchez I live in the middle of nowhere, I own a coffeehouse, I consult, I am running 12 agents currently one of which I had create a local newspaper, I gave it log ins to hostgator had it build a website, write the stories, do the research, email the people from the articles, and then uploaded it all and went live. We're only three days into that so nothing of substance is happening, but how cool, eventually sell ads, and help the community. That's just the first I have doing that but now imagine running any number of affiliate sites, blogs, scraper extraordinaire there's just so much to be doing right now. No one around me knows any of this stuff is happening yet. What an opportunity. Could go for days but you're 1000% right, I wish I was surrounded by more me types, but I will take the advantage of having no less than 5 counties near me where I may be the most educated on the subject.

Ah @HostGator broke all my websites, I know they're fire fighting to patch security which is fair enough and I've been patient hoping it'll resolve itself, it hasn't. Really grating is @HGSupport making up absolute nonsense and blaming all my sites being broken on "malware" 🙄🥱
