@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams Scripting language is a problem that may feel good to solve, but is a distraction, not a critical issue. Does the installer open security holes? Does it install things incorrectly? Does it work with MDM managers? None of those are solved nor caused by the scripting language.

@MicrosoftTeams Hello! Please, I need help. I'm trying to use #Teams with my family and my work group. The problem is, we *never* can listen to audio messages. When we tap Play on Android, a message appears: "Can't play message." ↓

Associate Director Mark Diaper commented "We initially undertook a virtual viewing via @MicrosoftTeams during lock down, a sale was agreed subject to a follow up viewing in person once restrictions were lifted. Unit 5 was a very rare opportunity to purchase a unit in Chester"

@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams Unless those don’t work for your needs. And it is possible to include runtimes in installers. How good an idea that is? Different story. But using shell instead of python solves exactly one problem that no one running the installer needs to care about.

Pleasantly surprised to see that @discord windows app was buttery smooth to use and didnt glitch at one interaction. This is in stark opposition to @MicrosoftTeams that I use for work in the same machine. Everything is laggy and I hate using it!!

@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams Or don’t let you pick non-default locations. Or use old APIs that limit path & file size limits. Or require a window manager to run on Linux. Using shell instead of python solves *none* of those problems, which is why I literally could *not* care less about twee shot like that.

@MicrosoftTeams I was in a Teams meeting the other night that was terrible, such lagging with browser sharing, unlike with Zoom. Please fix it. This program/app/website is a daily disappointment.

@MicrosoftTeams Except it doesn’t quite run like that does it? Why not show a video of the reality? Click on something and the whole thing freezes, video feeds go black, unable to mute/unmute. The presentation disappears everyone on the call curses Teams and the moment gets lost Fix the basics

@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams I explicitly asked you to let it go. to stop bothering me with this, to find someone else. You chose to ignore that, which turns you from an annoyance to a problem, but one I can solve. Later.

Phillip Boushy
(@PhillipBoushy) reported
@bynkii @MicrosoftTeams But there’s the crux of the issue. An MDM manager requires using the Apple native package. The Apple native package has specific times where you can either add files or run scripts. When running scripts using those provided with the OS ensures they can be installed easily.

@MicrosoftTeams And yet most feedback I read says fix it! Quit emphasizing call history, we want more contact real estate.
-
John C. Welch
(@bynkii) reported
@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams And you’re assuming that the native installers are able to solve every need, which is not a reliable assumption. In any case, the language use literally doesn’t solve problems involving installers that won’t run on a VM. Or require internet access for license activation.

Phillip Boushy
(@PhillipBoushy) reported
@bynkii @MicrosoftTeams I agreed with you that other items are important, but you’re saying language isn’t. And that is a core issue I’m seeing in multiple packages from vendors. Your mention of custom installers and non-built-in languages is part of how we have crap like McAfee agent installer.

@Microsoft @MicrosoftTeams Not only my phone (a Galaxy Note). It happens to other people here. We already cleared cache and data, removed the app, re-installed it... three times! Useless. Android version is problematic (like the terrible OneNote for Android) or is there something wrong here? Thank you.

@MicrosoftTeams I want the ability to block others from being notified when I am available. That is a serious privacy issue that should have never made it to public release.

@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams I’ve been dealing with installer problems a long time, and literally, I’ve yet to see a problem caused by the language used in the installer scripts. Focusing on that solves, again, one problem that isn’t really a problem. Scripting language didn’t cause zoom’s issues.
-
John C. Welch
(@bynkii) reported
@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams Teams moving off of electron to a native code on various platforms will solve infinitely more problems than what language its installer uses.
-
John C. Welch
(@bynkii) reported
@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams I’m aware. But it’s a secondary concern. Any supported language can be used, you can include the necessary files/runtimes in the package. But that doesn’t fix the issues I’m actually talking about, and some of the problems I listed exist on macOS.

@MicrosoftTeams It’s still a mystery to me how scrolling in my conversations on the desktop app is still that crappy and buggy and laggy. - It’s actually quite unbelievable how terrible it is.
-
John C. Welch
(@bynkii) reported
@PhillipBoushy @MicrosoftTeams That’s a solvable problem, a well-solved problem. If maximum cross-platform is what you want, shell is bollocks too. You either use different languages appropriate for the target, or include a runtime with your installer. But none of that makes an installer good or bad.
