Vidyut (@Vidyut) reportedIdea for @RahulGandhi election promises - revive BSNL and MTNL properly. Easy bookings, good coverage. If the private companies need to make a profit, limit it to 2g/3g, but keep their low budget phone plans alive. You can simply stand on stage and read out their recharge plan prices to get all the votes. Right now the public can't use them widely due to coverage issues. And this is not just for the poor. You can keep a phone no you mostly need for OTPs alive for a year in Rs. 321 if you're a Tamil Nadu police officer (as a comment below pointed out) - this could be extended to the poor! Loads of people who use separate numbers for banking and social media would vote for this.

Himanshu (@CalvinMax180237) reported@bsnl_care I talked with the staff at mtnl exchange from where the bsnl sims are being provided and they said they don't know anything about this offer. Then i called your toll free customer care number, and they confirmed that this plan is not available in delhi and Mumbai.

You can visit the nearest MTNL office with a valid ID proof and UPC code (for porting) to get a new SIM or complete the port-in process. MTNL and BSNL had a head start of decades, infrastructure across the entire country, and zero debt initially. Jio launched in 2016. BSNL was already struggling long before that. The real killers were delayed decisions (4G came years late), bureaucratic deadweight, and a workforce that grew without accountability.

Raju Chaudhary (@chaudhary_raju) reportedAfter 20 years with private operators, I ported my numbers to BSNL in Nov 2025 in MTNL Delhi Circle expecting better 4G services. Unfortunately, the experience has been extremely difficult with multiple network and service issues for the last 3 months.
