My Stock Market Journey - Third Post Long ago, when I was at Guwahati, there were so many stock exchanges all over India. Almost every state capital had a stock exchange. There used to be number of stock brokers in each exchange. Buying and Selling was done entirely by the stock brokers on the floor of the stock exchange by loud shouting. They did it on behalf of themselves and on behalf of their clients. It was all very very messy. There was absolutely no transparency. Cheating by brokers was very common. And yet, the system was working. People were earning and losing. Earlier to that, buying and selling used to happen even on the street especially in Mumbai. That was why, at Mumbai, it was called Dalal street. Even now it is nicknamed as Dalal street. From that messy system, we have reformed and modernised a long way to adopt to the present computerised system of trading. National stock exchange was established as a completely computerised, most modern stock exchange. Very quickly, all state level stock exchanges wound up completely, leaving only BSE and NSE in the field. Much later, MCX was established for commodity trading. NSDL was established for keeping track of all investers and their investments. Speculation was started because computerised working could easily handle it. Now, investors like me can easily BUY and SELL shares and derivatives in seconds and see the result within minutes. But, it took me many months to understand the working of the NSE, BSE, and my stock broker ICICI direct . Still , till this date, my knowledge is somewhat imperfect. Probably ditto for most others. I don't trade in derivatives. I don't do speculative trading. I also don't go for IPOs. I confine myself to medium and long term buying and selling of shares. I am trying to specialize in it. That seems good enough for me. All my knowledge acquired through passing the 12 NSE exams did not enable me to locate the Best possible BUYs and SELLs. But, they gave me good theoretical background. My knowledge of Accountancy acquired while passing my BSNL JAO exams was definitely of some help in understanding the Profit and loss accounts, the Balance sheets and the quarterly results statements of companies. My MA in Economics gave me some back ground in understanding the companies, sectors, industries, locational advantages , government policies and so on. Many times, I feel that we must thank God for not putting these stock exchanges under state governments. They would have made a mess of everything. Even the central government only deals with "problems" arising in stock exchange functioning and their solutions, but not with their normal working. This problem solving is done by the SEBI, or the stock exchange Board of India. The system of brokers continues but in a computerized environment. Most of the malpractices by brokers is gone. Some more are there. But they also can be tackled by SEBI and Govt. Today, it is very easy to be a stock market investor. I am not talking about specilation. I advice you all - Be an investor by all means. But avoid speculative (Day) trading. Almost all experts say that 90 percent of speculative traders lose their money . But investors are usually safe subject to certain standard well understood precautions. Welcome to the world of stock market investing!

Reviving BSNL is the only option left. Government invested in Vi. Amalgamation of Vi and bsnl is the best way to curb duopoly of network operators.

@hikaridhaval @Infostrixx @IndianTechGuide You need to understand the concept of coverage. Not everyone will have all the network towers within the reach of their home. Whichever network you get better, prefer that network instead of complaining. I get BSNL, VI & Jio network in my home. Airtel is trash.
