Raghav Wadhwa (@raghavwadhwa) reportedBSNL has proposed ₹77,000 crore of fresh capex over five years for 2 lakh new 4G sites and 5G rollout. Here is the strange part. The last time BSNL spent big on towers, its losses more than doubled. And the government still pulled the breakeven target forward by three years. The proposal sits in a DoT report dated 6 August to the Parliamentary Standing Committee. 2 lakh sites on top of the 1,05,290 already installed, 98% coverage, and breakeven by FY29 against the earlier FY32 timeline. The paradox is pure accounting. BSNL's FY26 loss widened to ₹4,738 crore because depreciation jumped to ₹10,350 crore after the ₹26,022 crore it spent in FY25, its largest capex year ever. It is paying the accounting price for the network it just built, and now wants to repeat it at triple the scale. Why this matters beyond BSNL: the first 4G rollout was a ₹15,000 crore consortium deal. TCS as integrator, Tejas Networks on radios, C-DoT on the core, ITI with its 20% mandated share. That one programme took Tejas to ₹8,923 crore revenue in FY25. When supplies for the first 1 lakh sites ended, Tejas revenue crashed 88%. One customer, lumpy orders, feast then famine. The cycle is already turning. In July, Tejas and ITI won a ₹3,033 crore follow-on order for around 26,000 sites, and DoT has sought another ₹21,588 crore infusion for FY27, separate from the ₹77,000 crore plan. Who sits in this value chain: Network equipment and integration: 🔹 Tejas Networks: primary RAN vendor inside the TCS consortium. The radio supply for 2 lakh sites flows through its indigenous 4G/5G stack 🔹 TCS: systems integrator, historically the largest share of consortium deal value 🔹 ITI Ltd: mandated ~20% share of BSNL site execution under the government reservation policy, sourcing equipment from Tejas 🔹 Frog Innovations (earlier Frog Cellsat): RF repeaters, in-building coverage and DAS solutions. Site densification means more coverage enhancement gear Towers, EPC and site rollout: 🔹 Bondada Engineering: repeat supplier of BSNL telecom towers with an order book near ₹10,023 crore. Customers span BSNL, Jio, Airtel and Vi 🔹 Pace Digitek: holds a ₹264.65 crore BSNL BharatNet order for Sikkim plus a ₹94.35 crore BSNL order for 25,000 lithium-ion battery modules via its subsidiary. Executable order book above ₹11,000 crore 🔹 Sar Televenture: installs and commissions 4G and 5G towers as a Category-I infrastructure provider, with an existing BSNL franchise agreement 🔹 Kore Digital: telecom infrastructure and OFC laying services, concentrated in Maharashtra 🔹 Suyog Telematics: poles and rooftop tower infrastructure leased to telcos Fibre and cable: 🔹 HFCL: holds a ₹1,127 crore BSNL optical transport order and won ₹2,666 crore of BharatNet Phase III work in June. Order book at ₹21,206 crore 🔹 Sterlite Technologies: pure-play optical after the services demerger. India sits at 0.09 km of fibre per person against 1.30 to 1.35 for China, US and Japan. Every new tower needs fiberisation 🔹 Birla Cable: optical fibre and copper telecom cables, a smaller direct play on the same backhaul demand 🔹 Vindhya Telelinks: OFC manufacturing plus turnkey EPC for telecom networks, a BharatNet regular Power and site energy: 🔹 Exicom Tele-Systems: telecom power systems and lithium-ion batteries. 2 lakh new sites means 2 lakh new power installations Satellite and remote connectivity: 🔹 Avantel: satellite communication equipment, relevant as BSNL pushes coverage into terrain where towers alone cannot reach 🔹 NELCO: Tata group VSAT operator, same remote connectivity logic Passive infrastructure and adjacencies: 🔹 Indus Towers: no direct BSNL order flow since BSNL owns its towers, but the BSNL and Vodafone Idea tower sharing talks, if they convert, reshape tenancy economics for the whole passive infra market 🔹 Tata Communications: not a BSNL vendor, but the enterprise and data backbone player that benefits as national fibre and connectivity density rises 🔹 Vodafone Idea: reportedly in talks with BSNL on tower and fibre sharing, which cuts capex for both In FY25 the government put ₹71,940 crore into BSNL. In FY24 it was ₹56,785 crore. Now ₹21,588 crore is being sought for FY27, with ₹77,000 crore proposed behind it. 📌Disclaimer: Educational purposes only, not a buy/sell recommendation.

Crescent 🌙🌘 (@ultrapromax100) reported@IndianTechGuide Gov should takeover these companies which are looting money from poor Indians and not giving them affordable plans. Merge them with BSNL and make bsnl network strong. Teach them the lesson.

Dr. Аshїsh Kumar Рrаdhаn🇮🇳 (@DrAshishPradhan) reportedI got a new BSNL SIM for absolutely free with 24 days validity. Not worried about network coverage since both home and workplace have WiFi. So, WiFi calling should work. As a second SIM, it should be a good option without spending too much money on expensive recharge plans.
