  Idea for @RahulGandhi election promises - revive BSNL and MTNL properly. Easy bookings, good coverage. If the private companies need to make a profit, limit it to 2g/3g, but keep their low budget phone plans alive. You can simply stand on stage and read out their recharge plan prices to get all the votes. Right now the public can't use them widely due to coverage issues. And this is not just for the poor. You can keep a phone no you mostly need for OTPs alive for a year in Rs. 321 if you're a Tamil Nadu police officer (as a comment below pointed out) - this could be extended to the poor! Loads of people who use separate numbers for banking and social media would vote for this.

  @Shivaagnihotry Dear Customer, if a double recharge of the same amount is done, the second recharge will be kept in queue.   BSNL network in our area remains frequently down & even when itz available, it fluctuates. Subscribers r paying 4 services they r unable 2 use, resulting in financial loss. Immediate intervention & a permanent, longterm solution r urgently needed. @bsnl_care @lg_ladakh @dc_Kgl

  Request to BSNL please increase the number of towers. The network condition is the same today as it was 13 years ago, only 4G has come in 2G areas. If you can't install new towers, then do tower sharing. The last thing is to increase the number of towers. @BSNLCorporate

  Villages were a different story. Sparse populations spread over large areas meant high costs and low returns. Private operators had little reason to fund a rural build-out. BSNL did lay some fibre, but it usually ended at the local telephone exchange. From there, connections ran over old copper wire, which carries a weaker signal the further it travels.

  @IndianGems_ If the government really cared, they would offer a basic plan in BSNL. It already has PAN India 2g network and it's adequate for calls. But no, they just divert you towards the corporate to save their ***.
